Orally, beta-carotene is used for reducing photosensitivities, including erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) and polymorphous light eruption. Beta-carotene is also used orally for decreasing exercise-induced asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and to reduce the risk of some cancers, cardiovascular disease, cataracts, and age related macular degeneration (AMD).
