Latanoprost is the first topical prostaglandin for glaucoma. It reduces intraocular pressure at least as well as timolol (Timoptic).

Timolol and other beta-blockers reduce pressure by slowing the production of aqueous humor in the eye. Latanoprost works by increasing drainage from the eye.
