Latex allergy is getting to be a BIG problem. It already affects over 6% of the population...over 10% of health care workers and patients who have frequent surgeries.

The dramatic increase in latex sensitivity started in the late 1980s...coinciding with the adoption of universal precautions...leading to the huge increase in latex glove use.

Latex is the milky sap from rubber trees. Proteins in the latex can trigger allergic reactions...especially after repeated exposure. Reactions range from hives and itching to anaphylaxis...16 deaths so far.
