New guidelines and drug shortages will raise new questions about treating ADHD in children.
The new guidelines now recommend treating kids as young as 4...IF they have severe symptoms that impair function AND behavioral therapy isn't enough. Until now the cutoff was 6-year-olds.
If you need to treat a 4- or 5-year-old, use low-dose methylphenidate. Stimulants are metabolized slower at this age.
