new drug options and doses for treating sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in CDC's new guidelines
Please see the CDC August 2012 new treatment recommendations for gonococcal infections
Gonorrhea. Give azithromycin or doxycycline PLUS ceftriaxone 250 mg IM...not 125 mg. This helps prevent gonococcal resistance...and covers uncomplicated genital chlamydia.
Using oral cefixime instead of ceftriaxone is still an option...except for pharyngeal infections.
